Is Microdosing Safe for Women? Here’s What I Tell My Clients
Microdosing psilocybin, the active compound in "magic mushrooms," is gaining traction as a potential treatment for various conditions, including depression, anxiety, and focus enhancement. However, it's crucial to approach microdosing with caution and a full understanding of the potential risks and benefits. This information is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Always consult a healthcare professional before considering microdosing, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions or take other medications
Microdosing sounds edgy, but the women coming to me are high-functioning, burned out, and done with white-knuckling their lives.
The question I get the most? “Is microdosing actually safe?”
Especially for women- with hormones, babies, birth control, and everything else. Let’s talk about it.
What Is Microdosing?
Microdosing = taking very small (sub-perceptual) amounts of psilocybin (aka magic mushrooms). Think: ~100mg every few days — not to trip, but to regulate.
Is Microdosing Safe?
For most healthy adults? Yes — when done intentionally.
It’s non-addictive
It’s not toxic to your body or brain
It’s being studied for anxiety, depression, and PTSD
It doesn’t get you “high” at micro doses
But here’s the thing: women’s bodies are different. And we need to factor in…
What to Consider as a Woman:
Hormonal shifts — you may feel effects more strongly around ovulation or your period
Postpartum/Breastfeeding — not recommended during nursing
Mental health history — consult with a pro if you’ve had bipolar or schizophrenia
Your intentions — it’s not a magic fix, but it can support your healing
Bottom Line: Microdosing isn’t a shortcut, it’s a tool
If used with intention (and ideally some guidance), it can help you feel more connected, clear, and calm.
