Most Women Have Hip Issues: Here’s What to do About it
You’ve probably heard that our hips hold our trauma. It comes up a lot in somatic trainings and yoga classes. Hip release poses often become places where a lot of feelings arise. It’s not uncommon for tears to come when stretching that space. Which makes a lot of sense to me, and is something I work with in my own body regularly.
And listen, we don’t have to go all the way down the road of the origin stories of your childhood and deepest wounding to actively seek physical relief. (I obviously encourage you to explore your own story in any way you like, this is just a specifically physical approach which is sometimes an anchoring access point from which to begin).
Yoga asanas
Yoga asanas can effectively enhance hip flexibility and mitigate tension. These poses offer a combination of physical and mental benefits, enabling relaxation and joint mobility through controlled stretching.
Strategic stretching
Strategic stretching techniques play a pivotal role in cultivating hip suppleness and alleviating muscular tightness. This approach not only targets physical discomfort but also addresses the release of accumulated emotional stress.
Foam rolling
Foam rolling methods involves applying precise pressure to hip musculature using a foam roller. By dismantling muscular adhesions and knots, this technique aids in alleviating tightness and potentially fosters tissue recovery.
Dynamic movements
Dynamic movements like All Fours and Hip Circles are instrumental in bolstering hip mobility. These motions, characterized by controlled rotations, foster flexibility enhancement and diminish stiffness, while also fostering a heightened somatic connection.
Targeted exercises
Targeted exercises like clam shells, hydrants, and monster walks concentrate on fortifying the hip's adjacent musculature, predominantly the glutes. Strengthening these muscles augments overall hip stability, striking a harmonious equilibrium between muscular strength and pliancy.
Whether you see your hips as gateways to your most personal stories or simply a tight spot that deserves some love– deliberate movement begets deliberate change.
