The Importance of Setting Boundaries

Setting boundaries is necessary in order to maintain our mental health. People often feel like they might be selfish by setting boundaries but it’s actually the opposite- it’s actually a form of self care!

Setting boundaries is a form of self-care.

Setting boundaries does NOT make you:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less empathetic ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less kind ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less lovable⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less understanding ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less desirable ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Less feminine ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You know the saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup?” Well without boundaries, you’d constantly be energetically depleted and thereby not respecting yourself first and foremost.

By setting boundaries, we allow ourselves to be able to practice these things from a genuine and bona fide place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve learned a lot by stepping outside my comfort zone and setting hard boundaries in the last few years which was always a struggle for me to do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the past, I thought by setting boundaries I would make other people uncomfortable or make myself look less desirable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still learning every day, but I’ve realized by me setting clear boundaries, I actually put myself in a position to practice the highest form of compassion for myself AND others.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I‘m curious, do you struggle with setting boundaries? How have you personally dealt with it? Leave me a comment below or send me a message.
